One of her best pieces in my opinion….Lauryn Hill - Mystery of Iniquity [All Falls Down] MTV Unplugged

So it turns out I am an ensemble, AND understudy! Oh boy, isn’t that great. To be exact, I will be understudies for Rafas, Cholo, and Zooter. I am very hyped up. Of course, this means I will probably be riding the city bus to rehearsal everyday at 7 or 8 and going home via city bus at 5 or 6. But I don’t care, but it’s what I love to do: theatre.
[photo set: 4 gifs of the fugee’s music video for ‘killing me softly’ first gif is of lauryn hill singing, “strumming my pain with his fingers.” second gif is of lauryn hill and wyclef - wyclef saying, “one time, one time.” third gif is of lauryn singing, “singing my life with this words.” and the final gif is of hill and wyclef again - wyclef saying, “two time, two time.”]

Rehearsals are every day but Mondays, and from as early as 10, to as late as 11. Of course, due to child labor laws, it’s not ever like 10 to 11 or anything. And the lunch breaks take at least an hour, so it’s not that overwhelming, but looking at the schedule makes it seem so.
But oh well, I get to do what I love to do, so I am not complaining one bit.
So this is probably the only picture of me in The Wiz that I kind of like. I actually like this picture a lot except my body looks a bit twisted. This was in The Emerald City “Ballet” where my partner and I get to come on stage first. It was probably my favorite dance for a while.
— Poem written by an 11 year old Afghan girl
This poem was recorded in a NYT magazine article about female underground poetry groups in Afghanistan. An amazing article about the ways in which women are using a traditional two line poetry form to express their resistance to male oppression, their feelings about love (considered blasphemous), and their doubts about religion.
One of the best articles I’ve read all year. Here’s the link

So I get to (kind of) be in the San Diego Repertory Theatre’s production of Zoot Suit as Male Ensemble Understudy so I am very excited for the professional experience and to have it on my resume, and I really hope I get to perform one night!
